Google Reportedly Contemplates Forming an In-House Startup Incubator to Nurture Innovation by Employees | MarTech Advisor

Google is reportedly planning to form a special division within its folds to nurture employees’ ideas and support their effort to innovate. The internet services giant intends to create what is internally known as “Area 120,”where the employees of the company will be able to work on their innovative ideas full-time while retaining their jobs. The effort, which being termed as Google’s attempt to prevent employees from leaving the company in pursuit of their own business venture, can actually encourage employees to come up with compelling ideas and satisfy their wish to innovate. Google already allows its employees to spend one-fifth (20%) of their working hours on their personal projects ad ideas. With Area 120, the company intends to expand its scope into a startup incubator where employees can devote their full time to their own venture. Interested employees will have to submit their business plan to the company, and if it gets approved, they can pursue a startup within the territory of Google. The compelling part is that, if they fail in their attempt, they will not have to fear losing their jobs as they will still be regular Google employees. Google has not however officially confirmed anything yet.
